Neuroni Specchio: Bibliografia Essenziale
“I neuroni specchio saranno per la psicologia quello che il DNA è stato per la biologia”
Un sostanziale contributo alle neuriscienze ci viene da una serie di esperimenti condotti da Giacomo Rizzolatti e dal suo gruppo di ricerca, che portarono alla scoperta nell’area F5 della corteccia premotoria della scimmia di neuroni motori che venivano attivati non nel corso dell’esecuzione di semplici movimenti ma durante la realizzazione di atti motori, cioè di movimenti finalizzati al raggiungimento di uno scopo (Rizzolatti, Fogassi, Gallese 2002; Rizzolatti e Sinigaglia 2006). Tali neuroni scaricavano ogni volta che la scimmia afferrava un oggetto, indipendentemente dal fatto che lo facesse con la mano destra, sinistra, oppure con la bocca. Il movimento di ognuna di queste diverse parti corporee era controllato da gruppi muscolari del tutto diversi; né i muscoli né i movimenti potevano, quindi, costituire il comune denominatore alla base dell’attivazione di questa popolazione neuronale. Il comune denominatore era costituito dallo scopo di quegli atti motori. Un gruppo di neuroni premotori, chiamati dai ricercatori neuroni specchio, tradizionalmente considerati parte della via finale comune mediante cui l’agente rispondeva a stimoli esterni o autogenerati eseguendo movimenti, si rivelava pertanto correlato con il livello più astratto di descrizione del movimento: il suo finalismo. Gli stessi neuroni, inoltre, “sparavano” non solo durante l’esecuzione dell’azione, ma anche quando l’azione veniva eseguita da un’altra scimmia o dallo sperimentatore.
